The film introduces farm workers as unique individuals and an essential work force that sacrifices to provide food for our tables. We learn about the difficulties of skilled farm work, physically and emotionally. We then experience many injustices farm workers endure, including extreme working conditions, poor sanitation, low wages, exposure to chemicals, substandard living conditions, deficient health care, lack of educational resources, sexual harassment, and even rape. Finally, the film concludes with farm workers’ desire to be treated with respect and dignity and explores solutions to empower them with a collective voice for positive change.

Dignity and respect are the foundation of our narrative. Equity will not occur until society begins to empathize with farm workers, seeing them as dignified human beings deserving of respect.

Farm workers suffer from extreme working conditions, low wages, exposure to chemicals, substandard living conditions, deficient health care, lack of union representation, sexual harassment, and rape.

Tears of the Field will document the lives, conditions, and needs of farm workers, inspiring Americans to empathize with farm workers and see them as an essential skilled work force.

TEARS OF THE FIELD is a feature documentary that takes an unflinching look at the injustices inflicted upon farm workers and their struggle to achieve dignity, respect, and equity.
